Right before leaving for hospital! |
September 3rd (38 weeks and 3 days pregnant) I woke up at 3:00am to use the bathroom. Something did not seem right to me. I got back in bed and tried to relax. I had a feeling "this was it", and Willy was looking at me funny and would not come near me! At 3:45am I got up again to use the bathroom and when I stood up....my water broke! I called my mom to ask what I should do. She said to call Dr. M. He said to go to the hospital, right away. I woke Nick up and told him, it was TIME!!!!!!!!!!
We left for Lutheran General around 4:45am. We had to bring the dogs over to my parents on the way. I went in through the ER doors, completely calm and soooo excited! I was admitted to the Labor and Delivery floor (room 8) at 5:30am.
My water broke and I was having contractions, but I was not progressing much on my own. Dr. M decided to start me on Petocin to help me dilate and speed things up. The long day of labor began. It was not bad at all, the worst parts were not being able to eat and the dreaded bed pan.
I opted for the epidural at 5cm dilated at 5pm. Nick left to go to my parents for dinner around 6pm and I dozed off for about half an hour. When Nick got back to the room, I called my mom and told her we were in for a long night so try to take a nap and come back around 9-10pm. Shelley came to the hospital around 8:00pm. Right after Dr. M. showed up. He told me since I had not dilated past 5cm- since the last time they checked me, and things were going pretty slow, we could now talk about the C-section. I was all happy and smiling! Dr. M. said he had to check me before we were going to go into surgery to make sure I was at the same level as before. He exams me and a few minutes later he tells me that I am ready to have the baby. Confused I ask what is going on? He tells me I am 10 cm dilated and ready to push.
Nick called my mom and tells her to get over to LGH as soon as possible, I was going to have the baby before 10pm. With a lot of laughing (and I mean a lot) and crying (happy tears) Nick, my Mom, Shelley and the medical team helped me deliver the most precious baby boy naturally!
